In the United States Ford Motor Company stands for all that is the best in the country and indeed symbolises the American spirit of entrepreneurship and innovation.

The very first mass-produced vehicle by Ford Motor was the model T Ford, built in 1908, in Ford plants around the world. Since then the company has been coming out with models with breakthrough technology. Now the company stands tall among all automobile manufacturers and now houses some of the world’s most favourite brands of cars such as the Jaguar, the Mazda and the Mercury.

The company’s founder Henry Ford’s philosophy “Act global, think local” has catapulted the company into becoming one of the largest automobile manufacturers the world over.

Ford India is the Indian subsidiary of Ford Motor Company. It has set up a sprawling, 350-acre manufacturing plant at Maramalai Nagar, Chennai, with an investment of Rs 1,700 crore. Ford currently has an 84-per cent stake in the subsidiary. Ford’s partnership with Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd was established in 1995 — a partnership designed to offer quality technology and value-for-money vehicles.

Ford India first launched the Escort in 1996 and won the JD Power Award in the India Initial Quality Survey in 1997. It also topped the Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) for two successive years — in 1997 and 1998 — in the JD Power Customer Satisfaction Survey.

The Maraimalai Nagar plant of Ford India Ltd, located roughly 45 kms from Chennai, provides employment to over 20,000 people. It has the capacity to manufacture 1,00,000 vehicles every year and is equipped with state-of-the-art vehicle manufacturing technology from Ford.
