Kozhikode: Qatar Airways says it will use Gas-to-Liquid (GTL) and kerosene mix as fuel for its aircraft from next year in order to facilitate lesser carbon emission. According to a top airline official, the airline was in the final stages of completing research on utilising the GTL-Kerosene mix.

''Carbon emission is a serious problem confronting the airlines and the carbon tax being charged by various governments is a subject of debate in several European nations where our airways has vital destinations,'' Qatar Airways chief executive officer, Akbar al Baker told reporters.

Qatar Airways is the national airline of the State of Qatar.

Stating that preliminary results were quite encouraging, al Baker said his airline would start using the fuel from next year after securing necessary certification from the government. ''It will be a new type of fuel that will lessen carbon emission from the engine'', he said.

At the Dubai Air Show last year the airline signed an agreement with some foreign companies for manufacturing the fuel. .
