Kingfisher, Jet rush in replies after receiving DGCA notice

New Delhi: Soon after receiving notices from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for failing to respond to its queries over the issue of taxes and surcharge, Kingfisher and Jet Airways rushed in their replies on Friday.

The directorate had asked airlines to clarify the clubbing of fuel and congestion cess of Rs1,800 under the head of taxes and surcharge, which conveyed the impression to passengers that the entire amount was being demitted to the exchequer.

Kingfisher and Jet had both failed to send in their response by the stipulated deadline, which brought a warning notice from the DGCA. The erring airlines were asked to submit their response by January 4 or face strict action, including revocation of their air operator's licence.

DGCA sources confirmed that replies had been received from Kingfisher and Jet asking for an increased response time.
