A new 24-hour store: Fujitsu's new 200 GB 2.5-inch 24x7 hard disk drive

By Our Corporate Bureau | 25 Jul 2007

Fujitsu's new MHY2 BS series 2.5-inch hard disk drives are designed for 24-hour continuous operation and are available in storage capacities of up to 200 GB. The company will sell these devices, designed for critical enterprise applications like entry-level servers and storage systems, as well as for industrial equipment like ATMs, POS systems, and medical equipment, starting from end-August.

The new series is for any application where there is a need for HDDs that deliver exceptional reliability such as 24-hour continuous operation and high-frequency access, as well as lower heat generation and reduced energy consumption. With a disk speed of 5,400 rpm and a serial ATA interface, they are also designed to minimise the effects of rotational vibration, which degrades drive performance.

The MHY2 BS series is Fujitsu's third 2.5-inch ATA HDD that is designed for 24-hour continuous operation and harsh operating conditions. The MHW2 BK series features a disk speed of 7,200 RPM, and the MHW2 AC series is designed to withstand extremely high and low temperatures.

All three series are RoHS compliant and, with these three, Fujitsu can offer HDDs for industrial equipment and enterprise applications that can operate in any conditions, best suited to customers' specific needs. In fiscal 2007, Fujitsu will produce 1 million units of the MHY2 BS series, 500,000 units of the MHW2 BK series, and 500,000 units of the MHW2 AC series.
