Indian's diversified business conglomerate Adani Group said yesterday that production from its $10-billion Carmichael coal project in Australia is expected to commence in 2015.

The company has completed a comprehensive geotechnical assessment of the coal deposit located in the Galillee basin, north-west of Clermont in central Queensland which has confirmed 10 billion tonnes of coal reserves.

"We have made significant progress in the Carmichael project since we acquired the mine in 2010.

The geotechnical field investigation for the project has been completed in a span of just nine months,'' Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani told reporters in Mudra Port in Gujarat.

The press conference was also attended by Queensland premier Campbell Newman and Australia's Resources and Energy minister Martin Ferguson, who were on a visit to India.

"The mine has an estimated reserve of 10 billion tonnes, making it the single largest coal tenement in the world," Adani said.
