AIMA awards young managers award to Madura Garments

New Delhi: Madura Garments has won the 31st AIMA-TATA Steel National Competition for Young Managers (NCYM) organised by the All India Management Association.

Eight regional teams participated in the finals in the competition which concluded in New Delhi on Saturday.

Kedar Apshankar, captain of the Madura Garments team, was judged the 'best young manager' of 2005. Companies in the top three include Tata Motors and NTPC.

The eight teams in the finals were from Tata Motors Ltd and Bokaro Steel Plant from Kolkata; Reliance Industries Ltd and National Thermal Power Corporation from Mumbai; Indian Oil Corporation Ltd and Maruti Udyog Ltd from New Delhi; and Aditya Birla Group and Reliance Industries from Chennai.

Madura Garments is among the largest garment manufacturers in India and is a subsidiary of the AV Birla Group.

A V Birla group's Indian Rayon acquired Madura Garments from Coats Viyella in 1999 and also obtained the rights to market Madura's six brands including, Louis Philippe, Van Heusen, Allen Solly, Byford, Peter England and San Frisco.

Earlier in January 2005, the company was awarded the title of the Most Admired Apparel Company of the Year at the Lycra Images Fashion Award 2005. Allen Solly also won the Most Admired Womenswear Brand and the Most Admired Trouser Brand of the Year for the second year in succession.
