Mumbai: West Asia's largest low cost carrier, Air Arabia, says it now has the distinction of being the fastest growing international airline in India. It also has the distinction of being the first foreign low-cost carrier to fly to India.

Starting operations to India with the launch of services to Mumbai in March 2005, Air Arabia currently serves 11 destinations in the country. It provides direct services to ten destinations - Ahmedabad, Chennai, Jaipur, Kochi, Mumbai, Nagpur, Coimbatore, Thiruvanathapuram, Bangalore and Kozhikode.

Globally, Air Arabia operates regular flights to 38 destinations across the Middle East, North Africa, CIS and the Indian subcontinent.

According to AK Nizar, head, commercial services, Air Arabia's success in India is rooted in the company's low-cost business model. The airline has made efforts to operate to smaller, less congested airports closer to the customer base, which has been hugely successful, he said.

''We started services to India with the goal of providing affordable, value for money travel for customers traveling to and from the Gulf,'' he said.

''We are absolutely delighted with the growth we have achieved in India and once again we re-assure our commitment to the goal we have set,'' he added.
