Air India''s Express to be based in Delhi

New Delhi: The low-cost arm airline of the newly merged Air India is shifting base from Mumbai to Delhi. Headquarters for the overall airline and cargo operations would continue to be based out of Mumbai.

According to sources, the overall responsibility of the low-cost carrier, Air India Express, would lie with joint managing director Vishwapati Trivedi, with P P Singh being appointed its chief operating officer. Both positions would be based in Delhi.

The Mumbai headquarters of Air India would handle international and domestic operations as well as cargo.

The special business unit for maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) will also be split in two. Facilities concerning airframes would be based in Mumbai, while those relating to engines and components would be based in Delhi.
