Airtel cuts 4G data rate by up to 32% as Reliance Jio garners strength

Telecom major Bharti Airtel has slashed 4G and 3G mobile internet data charges by up to 32 per cent from Rs259 per 1GB to as low as Rs51 per gigabyte (GB) under a mega saver scheme for its pre-paid customers.

To avail this benefit, however, customers will have to recharge with Rs1,498 Airtel data pack against which they will get 1GB of 4G or 3G mobile internet usage valid for 28 days, the company said in a statement.

With Rs1,498 data pack customers can get 1GB 4G/3G data upfront and enjoy unlimited number of 1GB 4G/3G recharges at Rs51 over the next 12 months.

The innovative packs, which are available in two denominations, offer great value to data users and the customers save more with every subsequent recharge.

With Rs748 pack customers get 1GB 4G/3G data upfront and unlimited number of 1GB 4G/3G recharges at the rate of Rs99 over the next 6 months.

There is no limit on the number of recharges during the period and higher the number of recharges the more value a customer gets.

Similarly, the Rs748 pack offers 1GB 4G/3G data upfront and post exhaustion of this data limit, customers can enjoy 1GB 4G/3G recharges for just Rs99 over a period of six months. There is no limit on the number of recharges during the period.

Price points valid for Delhi circle, may vary from circle to circle.

Commenting on the newly launched offers, Ajai Puri, Director – Operations (India & South Asia), Bharti Airtel said, ''At Airtel, we are constantly innovating to provide superior experience and great value to our customers. With these innovative packs, we are redefining the value proposition on our data packs and allowing our customers get a lot more within the same budget.''

Earlier this month, Airtel made voice calling free even in roaming under a new plan for Rs1,199, which also included 1GB of 3G or 4G data depending on availability of network.

Telecom majors like Airtel and Idea are cutting prices amidst a soft launch of service by Reliance Jio. The company had said it has over 1.5 million test users on its network.
