Singapore AirlinesSingapore Airlines, the first operator to launch services with the Airbus super jumbo A380 with the tag line 'A class beyond first,' will explore further opportunities in the premium segment of the market by reconfiguring five A340-500s with 100 lie-flat business class seats.

The reconfigured aircraft will operate on trans-Pacific routes to the US.

Currently, these A340-500s operate in a business class/premium economy configuration seating 181. The new all-business-class configuration will feature a 1-2-1 seating arrangement.

SIA will begin retrofitting its first aircraft for service between Singapore and Newark in May. Daily services with the new all-business-class configuration will start by the end of June as the reconfigured aircraft begin to be phased in.

The carrier will begin flights to Los Angeles in late September.
