Amazon’s Kindle Fire takes top position with 54.5 per cent market share of Android tablets

Amazon's Kindle Fire has taken the top position with a 54.4-per cent market share of the Android tablet world. Analysts say the success of the device underlines the surefire formula for market success - making premium value device available at a discount price.

They say customers are always looking for a bargain and want a quality product for mere pennies and that is what they get with Kindle Fire.

Amazon's new 7-inch tablet has therefore emerged as Apple's biggest competitor in the tablet market, and now it is also Google's biggest enemy.

According to ComScore, by February 2012, Amazon's Kindle Fire commanded 54.4-per cent of the Android tablet market, and despite reports of sales declining after the beginning of the year, that percentage was actually up from January which saw a 41.8-per cent share. The Kindle Fire still rules as the Android champ in December 2011, taking a 29.4-per cent of the Android tablet market.

But what makes the success of Kindle Fire all the more sweet is that all other Android tablets are seeing a decline.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab family, the second best-selling Android tablet line, for instance - took a share of 23.8-per cent in December 2011, then 19.1-per cent in January and 15.4-per cent in February.
