AMD and Sahara Computers and Electronics team up

Mumbai: AMD (NYSE: AMD) has announced that Sahara Computers and Electronics Limited (SCEL), a joint venture between Sahara India Pariwar and Sahara South Africa, will build and sell a range of Sahara-branded computers based on AMD processors.

"The combination of AMD's award-winning processors and Sahara's prominence as one of the biggest household names in India will help bring the benefits of computing technology to more of India's population," said Ajay Marathe, president, AMD India.

As part of its India charter, SCEL will manufacture and sell AMD processor-based products and solutions designed for the range of business and consumer technology buyers in the Indian market. These solutions will include computing platforms based on the AMD Athlon 64 and AMD Sempron processors for desktop and mobile computing and the AMD Opteron processor for workstations and servers.
