Mumbai: The Chennai-headquartered AMP Sanmar Assurance Company Ltd has launched its operations for the western region in Mumbai.

The company's network in Maharashtra will cover Thane, Navi Mumbai, Pune, Kolhapur, Nagpur, Aurangabad, Sholapur and Nasik. It will also cover Ahmedabad, Surat and Rajkot in Gujarat and Goa.

AMP Sanmar Assurance CEO SV Mony says: Our business plan is to achieve critical volumes at a fast pace in order to compensate for the late entry into the insurance market. The company started operations in March 2002 and its network today comprises 43 customer service centres spread over 30 locations and 800 insurance advisers.

AMP Sanmar has appointed Australian cricketer Steve Waugh as its brand ambassador, and has also tied up with Trade Wings Ltd, a travel and hospitality services group, for marketing its life insurance products. The distribution through the Trade Wings network is expected to commence in August 2002 pending necessary approvals.

AMP Sanmar Assurance is a joint venture between AMP, an Australian financial services company, and the Sanmar group, which has business interests in chemicals, shipping and engineering.
