Mumbai: The government's recent ban on exports of skimmed milk powder notwithstanding, Amul has emerged as the world's largest pouched milk brand having reached a turnover of Rs 4,277.84 crore.

The Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) revealed the figures at its 33rd  annual general body meeting in Anand yesterday.

Parthi Bhatol, chairman, GCMMF, said the year marked two events for the milk co-operative giant — the launch of health-spread category, and a common Amul Brand of liquid milk in all districts of Gujarat.

The sale of Amul milk pouches has grown by 40 per cent in value terms, and as compared to last year, it has registered a growth of 4.5 percent in milk procurement too.

Bhatol said that it was the common milk brand across the state, which benefited all the member unions and also helped Amul emerge as the largest milk brand in the world.
