Apollo to invest Rs2,800 crore in 11 new hospitals and medical colleges

Apollo Hospitals, one of the largest hospital chains in the country yesterday said that it would invest Rs2,800 crore in opening 11 more hospitals in the next fiscal and set up medical colleges.

Chennai-based Apollo Hospitals, with a turnover of Rs960 crore, will invest Rs1,800 crore in adding 11 more hospitals to its existing chain of 46 hospitals in India and overseas and invest Rs1,000 crore in setting up medical colleges.

It will also upgrade its 20 existing hospitals with the latest equipment and technology.

The expansion will add 2,000 beds to Apollo Hospitals' existing capacity of 8,800 beds, which will include 900 beds it will add during the next two months in Bhuvaneshwar, Lavasa, Kolkata and Secunderabad.

The hospital chain founded by Dr Prathap Reddy, in 1983 will also expand its cancer hospitals and equip them with latest technologies like Cyberknife and Novalis Tx.

Currently the hospital chain has and a nine cancer hospitals and a stem cell bank in Ahmedabad.
