Mumbai: Ashwin Dani, vice-chairman and managing director, Asian Paints (India) Ltd, has been presented with the highest recognition in supply chain management — the Cheminor Award for 2002 — by Indian Institute of Materials Management (IIMM).

Dr R Chidambaram, principle scientific advisor to the Indian government, handed over the award at a function in Mumbai today.

This award, instituted by the country's premier institute in materials management, is a recognition of Asian Paints' excellent management of the supply chain for better productivity and increased customer satisfaction. A pioneer of sorts in this area, Asian Paints recognised much ahead of time the importance of a dynamic supply chair, evolving it continuously with the changing business environment.

Says Dani: "It is a privilege to receive this recognition on behalf of the company. Supply chain has been one of the critical elements of our corporate strategy and is instrumented for our success. Continuous innovation and use of IT has been the hallmark of the supply chain solution with an effort to reduce cost but still increase service levels."

Says IIMM-Mumbai chairman B V Iyer: "This award is bestowed on those companies who adopt and successfully implement the best global supply chain practices and show results in terms of cost reduction. Asian Paints' prowess in managing the complexities of supply chain management is commendable and the institute is proud to confer the award to Dani in recognition of the organisation's supply chain management."
