08 Jan 2010

The 10th Auto Expo 2010 saw BSA Motors - a business unit of the Chennai-based Tube Investments of India (TII) and part of the Rs15,907-crore Murugappa Group - unveiling its next-generation electric scooter 'Edge'.

To be competitively priced at Rs35,500 (ex-showroom Delhi) and available in four attractive colours, Edge is the newest addition to the company's e-scooter lineup. Roamer Able incorporates an in-built reverse mechanism, the first in India, which enables the rider to reverse the vehicle with the push of a button.

Edge has a motor rated power of 1250watt, the highest in its category, and a motor peak power of 1600watt, which clearly shows that the company has gone beyond its earlier electric scooters, which came with a maximum power of 1000 watts.

A new and unique feature of the Edge is the 'speed selection switch', enabling the the rider to switch to power mode (speed) or economy mode (mileage) while riding. It also boasts a revolutionary 'planetary geared motor technology' for better torque, better acceleration, and better climbing capacity.

This family scooter requires six to eight hours of battery charge time.

BSA Motors is taking various steps to improve the performance, reliability and riding experience of electric scooters in India.
