Autodesk India launched AutoCAD 2000, Autodesk's latest release of AutoCAD software in a series of launch seminars in 14 cities in India and Sri Lanka.

Satish Bhave, Business Development Manager, Autodesk India, presented the concepts and discussed the need for a new range of products to address the challenging requirements of the coming millennium. He summarized the Design 2000 products offered in AutoCAD 2000 software.

The software has several new features such as multiple design environment, AutoCAD design ceenter, properties window, new layout concepts, AutoSnap/AutoTrack, databaseconnectivity, and viewing tools. AutoCAD 2000 is also a powerful platform for developing specialized vertical solutions and third-party applications.

AutoCAD 2000 incorporates over 400 individual enhancements that improve users' productivity. Foremost among these are:

MDE (Multiple Design Environment): Where users can open, edit, and design within multiple drawings in a single session of AutoCAD software across drawing boundaries like drag and drop of objects seamlessly across designs and from one window to another.

AutoCAD DesignCenter: This is a central repository that enables users to both browse their existing designs and to 'mine' for design ideas and content from existing drawings. AutoCAD DesignCenter lets users explore and reuse design objects, geometry, and standards. Users can easily copy symbols, layers, fonts, layouts, and styles from one design to another with a simple drag-and-drop operation, saving hours of redrawing work.

Properties Window: This gives users direct access to objects and drawing attributes.

Layouts: This feature helps to display and plot multiple hard-copy renditions of a single design comparable to individual sheets/workbooks in Microsoft Excel.

AutoSnap/AutoTrack: It lets customers design and edit without the need for construction lines in a way that keeps them focused on their design task at hand, and not on software command structures.

Connectivity and Viewing Tools: It includes access to files anywhere on the Web, object hyperlinks, and electronic plotting.
