Bajaj Allianz introduces child education initiative for the underprivileged

04 Jun 2010

Bajaj Allianz has launched a unique initiative, 'Two Bright Futures', under which it plans to set aside Rs100 for every child insurance plan it sells and utilise it for educating under-privileged children.

The company said that the amount being set aside would come solely from its own earnings without being deducted from customer who purchases a child insurance plan from it.

The funding corpus would be handed over to select NGO's across the country, which are working for a similar cause.

In the first phase of the programme, Bajaj Allianz has tied-up with Mumbai-based Aseema Trust, which works towards providing "holistic" education to children living on the streets or in slum communities. Aseema works in partnership with the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai to impart value-based and quality education to children from pre-primary to Standard 10.

Bajaj Allianz handed over the first contribution cheque of Rs.4.24 lakh to Aseema Trust last week, from the policies it has sold since 20 May, 2010, to help Aseema purchase books, uniforms, bags, stationery and finance support classes.

''There are many children who cannot pursue basic education due to some limitations like affordability, absence of guardian, etc," says Akshay Mehrotra, head - marketing, Bajaj Allianz Life. "Through this initiative we are ensuring a bright future for a child who needs our support the most. We feel that the 'Two Bright Futures' programme would be a small step in shaping their futures.''

Lawyer-turned education facilitator Dilbur Parakh, chairperson, Aseema Trust, who was involved with its founding in the '90s, after she gave up her career with the International Commission of Jurists, said that this contribution would facilitate in "enhancing the infrastructure to provide a positive educational environment to the children.''
