Bajaj Auto leads two-wheeler sales in January

02 Feb 2018

In two- and three-wheelers segment, Bajaj Auto reported strong sales growth for January, with overall motorcycles jumping 36 per cent on year to 2.89 lakh units and three-wheeler sales setting an all-time monthly record. Exports of motorcycles rose 37 per cent to 1.26 lakh.

This has come as a relief to the company, which had been seeing declining motorcycle sales this financial year. Thanks to January numbers, the company has returned to growth for the financial year 2017-18, with motorcycle numbers up 3 per cent compared to the same 10 months of last financial year.

January has been a good month for motorcycle manufacturers so far, with Royal Enfield reporting a 31 per cent jump.

Honda Motorcycles and Scooter India Pvt Ltd (HMSI) reported a 33 per cent increase in sales to 517,732 on the back of a huge 40 per cent rise in scooter sales.

TVS Motors saw domestic sales increase by 31.9 per cent in January on the back of 22 per cent growth in scooters and 63.7 per cent increase in motorcycles sales as a result of recovery in executive and economy segment motorcycle sales and healthy response from its new product Apache RR 310 in the premium segment.
