Bajaj launches new Pulsar 220 DTSi bike

23 Jun 2009

The country's second-largest two-wheeler maker, Bajaj Auto, launched an advanced version of its high-end bike Pulsar 220 in New Delhi on Tuesday. The new model will come without the company's fuel injection technology, which means it can be competitively priced at Rs70,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi).

''We have been continuously evolving our Pulsar range to provide our customers state-of-the-art product with unmatched performance and technology.

The new 2009 edition Pulsar 220 has further raised the bar in the performance segment by becoming India's fastest production bike,'' Bajaj Auto Ltd chief executive officer (two-wheelers) S Sridhar told reporters at the launch.

The new Pulsar 220 DTSi will be pitted against the new Apache 180 RTR and Yamaha FZ16.

Although the fuel injection technology is absent in the new model, nevertheless it is capable of producing more power at 21PS. It gets a mean and aggressive look from its all-black treatment. Moreover, the company has also worked on the gearing of the motorcycle which will help the new 220 to reach the top speed of more than 140kmph.

Since the last fiscal, the sales of the company have been declining. Its total two-wheeler sales during May this year fell 8.42 per cent at 1,65,697 units over the same month last year.

For 2008-09, the total two-wheeler sales of the Pune-based firm plummeted by 11.18 per cent at 19,19,582 units as against 21,61,095 units in the previous fiscal.
