Bharti Airtel rolls out 3G services in Karnataka

24 Jan 2011

Bharti Airtel today said it has rolled out its 3G services in India with the Karnataka circle, which forms its largest circle by revenue market share, enabling subscribers access to multimedia services, high speed mobile broadband and internet.

The telecom provider added that it will rollout services to other 12 circles for which it had bagged 3G licenses by March. Airtel had paid about Rs12,300 crore for securing spectrum in these circles.

''3G is much more than a technology migration, it is a transformational shift,'' said Sanjay Kapoor, CEO, Bharti Airtel, India and South Asia.

Airtel joins private telecom providers Tata Teleservices and Reliance Telecom, which had launched 3G services for its users last year.

State-owned BSNL and MTNL have been providing 3G services since 2009.

The telecom provider is offering users' fixed and variable data plans according to their usage.

Bharti Airtel Limited, a leading global telecommunications company with operations in 19 countries across Asia and Africa, already offers 3G services in eight countries in Africa. It had over 205 million customers across its operations at the end of December 2010.
