Bharti Airtel second-largest telecom in Nigeria

Statistics from the Nigerian the market regulator, Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC),  shows Bharti Airtel had emerged as the country's second largest telecom company.

The report published on the market regulator's website showed that, Airtel Nigeria's total number of customers stood at 26,194,336 while Glo, MTN and Etisalat finished at 24,490,650; 57,183,745 and 18,119,397 respectively.

The statistics showed continued growth that saw Airtel as the second-largest telecoms services provider in terms of customers, meaning that the company had now overtaken Glo as the second largest network by customer numbers.

Telecom Tiger quoted Christian de Faria, CEO, Airtel Africa, as saying, this was a remarkable feat for Airtel, demonstrating that the company's investments, aimed at ensuring a superior experience for its customers in Nigeria, were bearing fruit.

It was also a clear indication, he said, of the trust that a growing sector of the population have started to have in the company.

de Faria Nigeria continued to be a very competitive telecoms market and the company's intention was to ensure that it continued to innovate and make life easier for its customers.

Following the launch in 2010, Airtel had invested over $1.7 billion on expansion of network capacity and deepening quality in Nigeria.

IANS quoted Airtel Nigeria's chief executive officer and managing director Segun Ogunsanya as saying the company was extremely pleased that Nigerians were expressing confidence in its network and it would continue to excite and delight them with innovative and affordable mobile telecommunications solution.
