BHEL commissions India's first 525 MW thermal in Jharkhand

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has achieved a major landmark by successfully commissioning India's first 525 MW set at Maithon Right Bank thermal power project in Jharkhand, the company said in a statement today.

Bhel had been commissioned to execute the 1,050 MW greenfield power project, outbidding a Chinese supplier under international competitive bidding, from Maithon Power Limited (MPL), a joint venture company between the project manager Tata Power and state-owned Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC).

BHEL currently has orders to commssion four more such units of 525 MW sets.
 
BHEL has introduced new rating thermal sets of 150 MW, 270 MW, 525 MW and 600 MW, in addition to 250 MW and 500 MW thermal sets.

''BHEL has so far secured orders for more than one hundered 490 / 500 / 525 / 600 MW thermal sets,'' BHEL said in the statement.

BHEL has also introduced thermal sets with supercritical parameters of 660 / 700 / 800 MW unit ratings.

In fiscal 2010-11, the company has secured record orders for seven Steam Generators and nine Turbine Generators with supercritical parameters from public as well as private sector utilities.

BHEL is in the process of augmenting its capacity to manufacture equipment to be able to generate upto 20,000 MW per year, up from the existing 15,000 MW.

BHEL's scope of work in the project envisaged design, engineering, manufacture, supply, erection and commissioning of steam generators, turbine generators, electrostatic precipitators and associated auxiliaries, besides state-of-the-art controls and instrumentation.
