BHEL commissions Rihand power plant

New Delhi: Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd's 500-mw unit at National Thermal Power Corporation's Rihand power station in Uttar Pradesh has been commissioned.

The engineering firm had bagged the main plant package contract valued at Rs2,079 crore for the 2x500 MW Rihand Super Thermal Power Station — Stage II, a BHEL release said.

With the commissioning of the unit, the total generating capacity of Rihand station has gone up to 1,500 MW, it said. This unit would add 120 lakh units of electricity to the grid every day, it said, adding the second unit is expected to be completed by May 2005.

BHEL's scope of work in the project included the design, manufacture, supply and installation of two steam generator and turbine generator sets of 500 MW each, with associated auxiliaries and control system.
