BHEL pips L&T-MHI for Rs2,500-crore boiler contract from APGENCO Krishnapatnam power project

State-run Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd has won Rs 2,500 crore order from Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation Ltd to provide boilers for a 1,600 MW power project in the state.

"The company has won Rs2,500 crore order to provide boilers to the 1,600 MW Krishnapatnam power project of Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation Ltd (APGENCO)," sources said on Monday.

BHEL outbid the joint venture of Larsen & Toubro and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (L&T-MHI) to clinch the order. The bids for the supply of boilers for Krishnapatnam were opened on Friday.

This order comes close on the heels of BHEL losing the contract for supply of turbines and generators for the same project to L&T-MHI. (See: L&T bags India's first order for super critical 800 MW generators)

Meanwhile, the company has recently bagged Rs2,080 crore turnkey contract to develop a 400 MW thermal power project in Syria, the biggest order won by the company till date (See: BHEL awarded Rs2080-crore Syrian power contract) from the Public Establishment of Electricity for Generation and Transmission (PEEGT), Ministry of Electricity, Syria.

The public sectir BHEL will design, manufacture, supply, erect and commission the main plant equipment with associated auxiliaries, balance of plant and electrical and civil works and develop a 400 MW thermal power project at Tishreen Thermal Power Plant Extension in Syria, which would be executed in a period of 33 months.

BHEL is targeting a six-fold increase in its physical exports by 2012.
