BHEL Q3 net rises 78 per cent; beats expectations

PSU power equipment major BHEL has reported a net profit of Rs 423.19 crore for the third quarter ended 31 December 2005 or Rs 17.29 per share as compared to a profit of Rs 237.4 crore for the prior year quarter. Total revenues for the quarter increased to Rs 3,445.45 crore from Rs 2,386.47 crore during the same quarter of previous year, an increase of 44.37 per cent.

Other income for the latest reporting quarter is at Rs 118.74 crore as compared to Rs 99.85 crore for the third quarter of previous year and Rs 105.66 crore for the second quarter of current year.

The company had reported a net profit of Rs2 60.16 crore for the second quarter ended 30 September 2005 on revenues of Rs 2,615.95 crore. Cumulative profits for the first three quarters of the current financial year reported by BHEL stands at Rs 811.22 crore or Rs 33.14 per share of face value Rs 10 each.

BHEL said its outstanding order book as at the end of the third quarter is at Rs 33,800 crore. The government holds close to 68 per cent of the company.
