BHEL Q3 net rises over 2 per cent to Rs1,433 crore

State-run Bharat Heavy Electrical Ltd (BHEL) has posted a net profit of Rs1,433 crore for the fiscal third quarter ended 31 December 2011, against a net profit of Rs1,403 crore for the quarter ended 31 December 2010, an increase of 2.09 per cent year-on-year.

For the nine-month period of the financial year (April-December 2011-12) BHEL reported a 14 per cent year-on-year jump in its net profit at Rs3,660.2 crore against a net profit of Rs3,213.2 crore in the year-ago period.

Total income of the company increased 19.2 per cent to Rs10,548 crore during the quarter ended 31 December 2011, from Rs8,849 crore during the quarter ended 31 December 2010, the company said in a release.

Sales in the December 2011 quarter stood at Rs11,078.3 crore against Rs10,757.6 crore in the comparable period of the previous financial year.

During the quarter, the company's operating profit margin declined 340 bps to 20.13 per cent from 23.53 per cent during the same period last year.

BHEL's sales climbed to Rs29,269.1 crore in the nine months under review from Rs24,756.5 crore in the same period a year ago, the company said in a statement.

Shares of the company were down Rs8, or 2.84 per cent at Rs273.65 on Friday. Total volume of shares traded on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) was 1,032,176 on Friday.
