Mumbai: The Tiruchirapalli unit of Bharat Heavy Electricals has secured orders worth over Rs15,000 crore - an all-time record - for supplying power plant equipment, BHEL executive director R N Mishra said.

"Customers placed consistent trust on the PSU and orders were received through negotiated process,'' he said.

BHEL has recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Tamil Nadu Electricity Board for supplying super critical boilers for the 2X800 MW thermal power station near Chennai.

The boilers would be manufactured with the technology from Alstom, US.
The PSU has also augmented its manufacturing capacity to 10,000 MW in the phase I of an expansion programme.

BHEL is investing Rs732 crore in the second phase of expansion, he said.

BHEL (including all units), has posted net profit of Rs770 crore for the third quarter (October-December) as compared to Rs670 crore for the quarter ended December 31, 2006, showing a 15.6 per cent rise over the same period of last fiscal, the company said Friday.

BHEL's total income increased by 15.5 per cent from Rs4,500 crore in the same quarter in the past year to Rs5,200 crore in the current, the company said.
