Biocon plans to set up manufacturing unit in Visakapatanam

The Andhra Pradesh government announced on Sunday that pharmaceutical firm giant Biocon Ltd would set up a manufacturing unit in the port city of Visakhapatnam in the state.

Biocon chairperson and managing director Kiran Mazumdar met Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and said that the company was planning to set up a manufacturing facility in Vizag in the next six months, a government release said.

During the meeting, Mazumdar gave a presentation to the chief minister on e-healthcare and its advantages and also briefed him about telemedicine and e-diagnosis, where details of the patient will be uploaded on the cloud, it said.

She told the chief minister that the company is running pilot centres in Odisha and Rajasthan, adding that Biocon is rolling out 50 centres in Odisha and 100 centres in Rajasthan on a pilot basis. The Chief Minister assured Shah that Andhra Pradesh is prepared to help set up 100-200 pilot centre.
