BMW launches BMW Mini Cooper Countryman in India

Luxury car maker BMW has launched Mini Cooper Countryman in India, priced Rs25.60 lakh and above. The vehicle would be offered in two diesel variants -- Mini Cooper D Countryman and Mini Cooper D Countryman High.

The manufacturer had in April started local production of Mini Countryman at its Chennai facility.

BMW Chennai plant, spread over 40-acres at Mahindra World City in Singaperumalkoil, currently produces BMW 3 series, BMW 5 series, BMW X1 and BMW X3.

In addition to Mini Cooper, the company in 2013 would also produce BMW 7 series and the BMW 1 series at the facility.

The Mini Cooper car range available in India is priced between Rs26.6 lakh for the base variant and Rs37.50 lakh for the top-end model.

The German luxury car maker has established five exclusive outlets in India, which was the 100th market for the sales of BMW Mini.

The Mini Cooper D would be shipped to India in the form of Complete Knocked-Down (CKD) kits and would be assembled at the Chennai facility of the company. According to industry experts, the pricing of both the options had been kept competitive, considering the yet to be launched Mercedes Benz A Class.

While the Mini Cooper D Countryman would carry a price tag of Rs25.6 lakh, the Countryman High would be on offer for Rs28.9 lakh.

Both the Mini Cooper's would be powered by a 1.6-litre diesel engine delivering 122 PS of power and 270 Nm of torque.
