BSNL, Pantel Tech tie up to launch Rs1,800 smartphone

State-owned telecom operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) has teamed up with with Pantel Technologies Pvt Ltd to launch an entry-level feature phone for just Rs for Rs.1,799.

The 'Bharat Phone', as it has been dubbed, has a three-inch display and allows internet browsing as well as access to email, Facebook and music or video downloads – and moreover, comes loaded with 1,200 minutes of talk time.

"We are delighted to offer latest-technology products in a reverse data bundling marketing alliance with Pantel Technologies. Products like the Penta Bharat Phone will now offer the Indian consumer the power of internet access at an affordable price," BSNL chairman and managing director R K Upadhyay told newspersons at the launch of the phone in Kolkata on Friday.

''The launch of Bharat Phone from Pantel Technologies (is) meant for the common man. BSNL always endeavours to serve and work for common man."

Along with Bharat Phone, BSNL also launched two more expensive smartphones – the PS501 and PS650.

Penta Smart PS650 is a 3G device priced at Rs7,999 with 6.5-inch display; while the PentaSmart PS501 with 5-inch display comes at a price of Rs 6,999. The PS501 in particular has received good reviews.

"The PS501 and PS650 are masterpieces in the smart devices category. These devices have been designed around the user - smart, stylish, sporty, elegant, gamer, entertainer, music lover, movie freak and full of sophistication.

"We affirm that these products - bundled with attractive internet and voice plans from BSNL and designed specifically for the 'aam admi' - will gain quick market acceptance and saliency," said Pantel Technologies managing director Vijender Singh.
