Public sector telco is targeting 7.5 million broadband subscribers in the current fiscal, up from the 3.7 million that it has, in a bid to expand its market.

It expects the growth drivers to be the the demand from the small towns and cities, the areas where it already has a prersence as it operates all over the country barring the metros of Delhi and Mumbai, which is covered by athe other public sector telco, MTNL.

Anil Jain, general manager, broadband,  BSNL, said though the growth would be driven mainly by class A cities, B and C cities were moving in towards boadband usage.

Jain said the telco was already offering broadband services in the rural areas at subsidised rates.
To expand its coverage, BSNL plans to use vendors for offering bundled subscription.

Its private telecom rivals like Bharti and Reliance are targeting high as well as mass market broadband subscribers.
