Business mobile? Try the E63 from Nokia

18 Nov 2008

We've just recently seen the launch of 2 new E(Enterprise) class phones from Nokia, namely, the E66 slider and the E71, with QWERTY keypad.  Now there's another offering coming up in the same segment - the E63.

This phone shares the looks of the E71, as also the screen size and resolution, which are 2.36'' and 320 x 240 pixels. The same ability to swap between two different home screen modes reflecting business and pleasure is retained.

The full keyboard allows easy text input and there are dedicated one-touch keys for home, contacts, calendar and messaging. The on-board memory of 110 MB can be easily upgraded to a staggering 8 GB via the hot-swappable microSD slot.

Operation is Quad-band, which means it can work anywhere in the world, and all the expected connectivity options like GPRS, EDGE, HSDPA, Bluetooth 2.0, WLAN, TCP/IP are available.  For the internet, you've got the Nokia Browser and protocols like IMAP, POP3, SMTP and Mail for Exchange support for e-mail.

The camera is where there is a letdown, with just a 2-megapixel camera provided, while the bar is being steadily raised and 3.2 and 5 MP cameras are the norm these days. Still, you can click reasonably good pictures and share them online with Ovi. Video can be recorded for a maximum of 1 hour and the maximum supported resolution is 320x240 at 15 fps.

A variety of standard audio and video formats can be played back with the music player and real player. The good thing here is that unlike on the E71, we get the standard 3.5 mm jack for audio on the E63, which means you can use your favourite brand of phone.

The launch price is yet to be announced, but we can expect it to be in the range of 20K, in keeping with Nokia's current aggressive strategy.
