Cadbury to add Fairtrade mark to Dairy Milk brand in Canada, Australia and New Zealand

26 Aug 2009

Confectionary maker Cadbury has extended its flagship Cadbury Dairy Milk brand  for Fairtrade certification in three more markets, in addition to the UK and Ireland.

The certification, which will come by early 2010, will enable its Cadbury Dairy Milk to use the Fairtrade mark in Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

The Fairtrade partnership with Cadbury Australia and New Zealand will also result in Fairtrade certified bars being available in Japan.

This latest move takes the mainstreaming of Fairtrade to a new global level, meaning that around one quarter of Cadbury Dairy Milk global sales and 350 million Cadbury Dairy Milk bars will be Fairtrade certified in 2010.

In March this year, Cadbury had made known its intention to promote the Fairtrade mark on all its brands (See: Cadbury to achieve Fairtrade certification)

Under this initiative, Cadbury is investing £45 million over the next 10 years to secure the sustainable socio-economic future of cocoa farming in Ghana, India, Indonesia and the Caribbean where the cocoa farming industry is facing increasing challenges.
