Cairn Energy awards Jindal Saw $200 million order for Barmer-Salaya pipeline project

Mumbai: Jindal Saw Ltd (JSL) has secured an order worth over $200 million from Cairn Energy India Pty (Cairn) for supply of line pipes, tracer tube, insulation and bends for its Barmer-Salaya pipeline project.

Under the contract, JSL will supply pipeline for a distance of over 600 km, weighing around 100,000 tonnes. The order will be executed between May 2008 and December2008.

The Barmer-Salaya pipeline would be the world's longest underground pre-insulated heat traced pipeline for transporting waxy and heavy crude which solidifies at ambient temperature.

The pipeline, to be jointly owned by Cairn and Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), will carry crude from Cairn's oil fields in Mangala in North-west India to a terminal in Salaya, nearly 600 km away.
 
With this order, the total order book of JSL exceeds Rs 4,000 crore (approx $1 billion).
