China grants landing rights to Zee TV

Essel Group's Zee TV has received the much-awaited landing rights in China which would enable the media firm to enter the market in the country.

"Zee TV has got the landing rights in China," a ministry of external affairs spokesperson said while briefing reporters on the talks between India's foreign minister S M Krishna and his Chinese counterpart Yang Jeichi in New Delhi.

Zee, which was among the first companies in the electronic media space in India, had applied for landing rights in China in 2006.

Zee TV, among the top 3 satellite television channels in India, is owned by Subhas Chandra's Zee Entertainment Enterprises based in Mumbai, which broadcasts various programmes in Hindi and other regional languages of India.

Launched in 1992, it provides its coverage in 120 countries, reaching over 500 million viewers  South Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, East Asia, Australasia and North America.  It is the largest media franchise serving the South Asian audiences, and has been instrumental in driving the growth of the satellite and cable industry in India.
