Daewoo Motor working on new models

Daewoo Motor Daewoo Motor Company of Korea is working on a small car code-named ''S-100'', which will be higher-powered vehicle on the Matiz platform. The car will also have better emission standards, more safety features, and greater comfort, according to the company''s management. The car may take 20 months to be launched.

The company''s Matix small car model is made in Korea, India, Romania, and Poland. Daewoo, which has manufacturing facilities in Iran and Uzbekistan, will also make the Matiz in these countries.

By end-1999 the Korean company plans to launch a new mid-size car in Korea. This car will based on the Leganza platform. Production, projected at 200,000 a year, will mainly cater to the Korean and American markets. The company plans to export 30,000 - 40,000 of these cars to the US in 2000. Exports to the US market will rise to 100,000, the company hopes.

Daewoo will also make, for the first time, a multi-utility vehicle, which will be built on the Nubira platform. This car, to be launched in early 2000, will have a body that will be bigger than the body. The vehicle will be available in two versions, a five-seater, and a seven-seater.
