Daimler to recall 1 mn Mercedes-Benz over potential fire hazard

German automaker Daimler AG yesterday said that it is recalling one million of several models of Mercedes-Benz because of a potential fire hazard.

The recall includes certain A-Class, B-Class, C-Class, E-Class and CLA cars and GLA and GLC SUVs.

The recall affects more than 300,000 vehicles in the US, about 75, in the UK and the rest elsewhere.

Some starter components in cars made between 2015 and 2017 is said to cause them to overheat.

Daimler said the starting current limiter could overload under ''unique'' conditions where a driver repeatedly tries to start their car when the engine has seized up.

There have been reports of 51 fires, with about 30 in the US, but no injuries or deaths have been reported.

Daimler said that it a fix has been implemented in the production of new vehicles and cars already on dealers lots will be fixed before they are sold.
