DaimlerChrysler India renamed to Mercedes-Benz India

21 Feb 2008

New Delhi: DaimlerChrysler India has announced that it has received formal approval from the Registrar of Companies to change its name to Mercedes-Benz India Private Limited.

This is in line with global policy and renaming of the automobile manufacturer following the disposal of 80.1 per cent of its stake in Chrysler Holding LLC.
A clear distinction has been made between the corporate brand Daimler and the Group's various product brands.

Wherever the focus is on the Group as a whole, or in areas where several brands are involved, the company presents itself consistently as Daimler, thus providing an umbrella designation for all of the individual product brands.

Wherever the company is dealing directly with customers, and in areas where the focus is primarily on products of a single brand, the corresponding brand name will be used. It is in this context that the Indian operations have been re-christened, since Mercedes-Benz brand is the key product brand offered in the country.

This clear distinction between the corporate brand and the product brands is aimed to position the brand more clearly and make them even stronger in various local markets.

Keeping in view the customer expectations, the company has widened the product portfolio of its offerings for the Indian market.

  • Mercedes-Benz Passenger Cars:  The company manufactures the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, E-Class and the C-Class cars in its facility in Pune, India. Other products that are offered as Completely Built imported cars include the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, E-Class, M-Class, CLS-Class, SLK-Class, SL-Class, and the CL-Class. Mercedes-Benz India earlier announced their passenger-car sales of approximately 2500 units in India from January till December 2007, an 18 per cent growth over 2006.
  • Mercedes-Benz Trucks:  Mercedes-Benz India manufactures the Actros 4840K range of heavy-end trucks targeted at mining operations. Till date, the company has sold about 250 trucks to customers who need reliable, robust and cost efficient solutions for their demanding mining operations.
