Dell accidentally ships spyware-infected server motherboards

Computer maker Dell yesterday confirmed that some of its PowerEdge server motherboards shipped to costumers have embedded spy ware.

The company has admitted to accidentally installing replacement motherboards carrying malicious software in four of its server lines.

According to the computer maker, it was contacting all buyers of the affected servers, PowerEdge R310, R410, R510 and T410, who had had their motherboards replaced in the past year or so.

Dell claims the damage is limited to replacement motherboards for the four Dell server products of the above product lines.

Dell confirmed the issue followed a customer receiving a call warning about the infected motherboard.

The PC maker also issued a public statement, saying, ''As part of Dell's quality process, we have identified a potential issue with our service mother board stock, like the one you received for your PowerEdge R410, and are taking preventative action with our customers accordingly.
