Dell India sets up customer contact centre at Hitec City

Hyderabad: Dell India is setting up a new campus in Hyderabad for its customer contact centre operations.

The company's new campus located on 6.6 acres in the Hitec City area will include state-of-the-art offices, cafeteria, gymnasium and other modern facilities for the welfare of employees and is expected to be completed by October 2005. Dell plans move its entire customer contact centre operations from its current leased premises, also in Hitec City.

John Hamlin, senior vice-president of Dell's US Consumer and International Services segments; Dagoberto Quintana, vice-president of Dell International Services; and Romi Malhotra, managing director of Dell India, were present at the ceremony.

Romi Malhotra said, "Dell's building its own campus is a clear indication of its long term commitment to the country and to Hyderabad," and added that, "The customer contact centers in India have transitioned into a premier operation for Dell," he added.

Dell's customer contact centre in Hyderabad began operations in March 2003 and offers multiple services to various Dell business segments, including sales, customer care, technical support, e-mail support and shared services.

The computer maker could add more functions in the future as its business grows.

Dell's operations in India comprise of a direct model built on the principle that by selling computer systems directly to customers, Dell can best understand their needs and efficiently provide the most effective computing solutions to meet those needs.

The company opened its second customer care contact centre in Hyderabad the first was opened in Bangalore in May 2001. Last month, Dell announced a third centre scheduled to open in Chandigarh in March 2005.

Dell has also established a global product group in Bangalore that focuses on the company's enterprise products, including servers and storage solutions as well as a global software development centre that provides application planning, design, development and testing services with all Dell business segments, including sales and marketing, worldwide operations and corporate systems.

Dell opened a sales and marketing office in Bangalore in 1996, followed by a customer contact centre in Bangalore in May 2001.

Dell's customer contact centre in Bangalore has transitioned into premier operations for the company. It houses a global product group focused on development and testing for Dell's enterprise product line; a global software development centre staffed with Dell IT professionals to execute IT projects for Dell applications; and a sales and service operation supporting customers throughout the world.
