Turning an impending national disaster into a business opportunity, Dettol, the household name in antiseptics, has tied up with Amazon India to provide air masks to protect against the rising pollution in the country, especially the national capital region.

While initially the air masks will only be available on Amazon India, they will soon be listed on other leading e-commerce companies.

A 2015 UN World Health Organisation report has revealed that 13 of the 20 most polluted cities in the world are in India. Particulate matter (or small airborne particles) is among the most detrimental of these pollutants. Studies have also linked it with the increased rates of chronic bronchitis, lung cancer and heart disease.

Talking about the launch, Arjun Purkayastha, marketing director, Dettol, developing markets, said, "Dettol has consistently worked towards solutions for improving the health and hygiene of our consumers. The risk from air pollution is very real and getting worse by the day.

"While we all work towards a longer term goal of reducing pollution, it is also important to protect ourselves from its adverse impact on a daily basis."

"We are very excited to bring this quality product to our customers across India and provide them an easy and convenient access to the Dettol Air Mask. Customers today are very health-conscious and we are witnessing an increase in demand for such products on our Health and Personal Care store," said director Category management, FMCG, Amazon India, Saurabh Srivastava.

"Our exclusive partnership with Dettol is in line with our aim to enable customers to find, discover and buy anything that they wish to buy online on our platform," added Srivastava.

The all-new Dettol Air Mask will provide protection from PM 2.5, bacteria, dust and even pollen. It's meant for daily use when there is haze, dust or pollution. The mast comes with two replaceable filters.
