Chennai: In its attempt to storm the corporate segment, the city-based Internet service provider (ISP) DishnetDSL has embraced a new technology: Ethernet-over-SDH synchronous digital hierarchy.

DishnetDSL CEO V Srinivasan says the new technology will enable Dishnet customers to cut their capex on hardware like routers and modems, as and when they increase their bandwidth requirements. "With this the customers have the flexibility to increase or decrease their bandwidth requirements at a short notice at no cost incurred for new hardware."

Earlier it used to take at least six weeks for a customer to upgrade his bandwidth requirements, but now it could be done in minutes, he adds. Dishnet sources the new technology from the Bangalore-based Tejas Networks.
