Dr. Reddy’s Announces the Launch of Metoprolol Succinate ER (Extended-Release) Tablets

Hyderabad-based Dr. Reddy's Laboratories today said that it has launched Metoprolol Succinate ER (extended-release) tablets in dosages of 25mg, 50mg, 100mg and 200mg.

Metoprolol is a selective ß1 receptor blocker used in treatment of several diseases of the cardiovascular system, especially hypertension. It is also used fpr angina, acute myocardial infarction, supraventricular tachycardia, ventricular tachycardia, congestive heart failure, and prevention of migraine headaches, though it is

Dr Reddy's dsais it is a bioequivalent generic version of Toprol-XL metoprolol succinate tablets in the US market on September 11, 2012. Metoprolol ER was approved by the United States Food & Drug Administration (USFDA) in August 2012.

 It is marketed under the brand name Lopressor by Novartis, and Toprol-XL (in the USA) and in India it is available under the brand names of Metxl, Metolar and Starpress, Restopress. A number of generic products are available as well.

The Toprol-XL brand and generic had US sales of approximately $1.13 billion for the 12 months ending June 2012 according to IMS Health.
