Facebook user base in India expands to 112 million, largest after US

Increasing internet penetration coupled with a large youth population helped Facebook expand its user base in India to 112 million, the largest after the US.

Facebook, with over 100 million users in April, saw its monthly active users (MAUs)'s base touch 112 million at the end of September.

The number of daily active users from India stands at 52 million.

The company, globally has 1.35 billion users, while the daily active users are 864 million. Facebook in India has the largest user base outside the US.

Facebook India managing director, Kirthiga Reddy told PTI that the social network had seen tremendous growth from across regions. She added, there was still a huge market opportunity to tap into and Facebook was engaging actively with users and partners (brands, advertisers etc) on how their experience on the platform could be enhanced further.

Of the 112 million users in the country, over 99 million users were using the platform through their mobile phones at least once a month, while around 45 million users in India were using their mobile phones every day to connect with their friends on Facebook.

Facebook conducted a study titled "Coming of Age on Screens", which aimed to understand people's attitudes and behaviour both online and offline.

According to the study 77 per cent of the users in the 13-24 years age group agreed that they could not leave their house without their mobile, while 63 per cent agreed that they would prefer to give up their TV for their mobile phone.
