US automaker Ford has announced a recall of 39,315 cars in India, including the Ford Fiesta Classic and previous-generation Ford Figo that rolled out of Ford's facility in Chennai between 2004 and 2012. The recall was issued to inspect a potential failure in the high-pressure power steering hose.

Inspection of the vehicles will be carried out at Ford's authorised dealerships, and faulty high-pressure power assisted steering hoses will be replaced on all affected vehicles. The company has called on owners of the recalled vehicles to take them to the nearest Ford dealership as soon as possible.

Ford said in a statement on the issue, "Ford India is voluntarily inspecting 39,315 Ford Fiesta Classic and previous-generation Ford Figo vehicles, made at the company's Chennai plant between 2004 and 2012, for a potential concern related to high-pressure power assisted steering hose. Ford India, through its dealers, will replace the high-pressure power assisted steering hose on all affected vehicles. Ford remains committed to delivering world-class quality vehicles to its customers and this voluntary safety recall is part of that commitment.''

Ford has also issued a similar recall of 15,600 cars in South Africa.

Commentators pointed out Previously, Ford India had recalled 1,66,021 units+ of Figo and Fiesta Classic models in September 2013 to rectify faulty rear twist beam and the power steering hose.

Last year, Ford had recalled around 42,300 units+ of the new generation of hatchback Figo and compact sedan Figo Aspire to fix a software glitch that could lead to malfunctioning of airbags during a collision.

In May 2016, 48,700 EcoSport also been recalled due to faulty brake, fuel lines and rear seat.
