Ford conservation grants announced

Mumbai: Ford India has announced the winners of the Ford Conservation and Environmental grants for the year 2001.

Adult category
Madras Crocodile Bank Trust
Madras Crocodile Bank Trust is a centre for herpetology that has a unique collection of reptiles. The project called ‘Integrated Environment Education’ is on reptile preservation - a multilingual programme to raise environmental consciousness on reptile conversation, snakebite treatment, tree-planting and sustainable use of wildlife resources.

Wildlife Society of Orissa
Wildlife Society of Orissa, a registered non-profit society, has been awarded under the Environment Education category for ‘Operation Kachhapa,’ a project on the preservation of sea turtles of the Gahirmatha coast in Orissa. The grant amount will be used to establish a turtle interpretation centre for education on turtle biology.

C S I Ewart Matriculation Higher Secondary School has submitted a project titled ‘Proliferating Vermiculture Practice by Community Participation,’ which has been awarded for incorporating vermiculture units on camps to battle environmental pollution and bring down the energy crisis.

Vidyodaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Chennai
Vidyodaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School has been awarded for initiating a ‘Rain Water Harvesting’ project to conserve water and prevent water logging within their campus.
