Ford opens 45 new sales, service outlets in one day

Ford India, w wholly-owned subsidiary of Detroit's Ford Motor Co, today showed how much it is banking on India to propel future growth, as it has opened 45 new dealerships across the country in a single day – riding mainly on the success of its entry-level hatchback Figo.

On Thursday, Ford also announced plans to open ''a new sales or service outlet every 10 days'' during 2012, seeking to expand its market beyond the major cities.

Just about two years ago, in February 2010, Ford opened 26 dealerships in small to mid-sized cities.

This calendar year will also see Ford carmaker launch new variants of existing models as well as increase exports of its 'made in India' cars to 50 countries.

''Since the launch of our compact car Figo in March 2010, we have been opening a new sales dealership or service outlet every 10 days. We intend to continue this plan during 2012 also in view of our capacity expansion and upcoming new vehicle launch plans,'' Michael Boneham, president and managing director of Ford India, said in a statement.

The sales and service outlets in 35 locations opened today, including Rohtak, Sonepat, Rourkela, Agartala, Gulbarga, Tirupur, Jabalpur, Sagar, Thanjavur, and Solapur. With this, the company's pan-India network has expanded to 230 sales and service outlets in 123 cities.
