Ford to clear Figo backlog in a month

16 Jul 2010

With increased output from its Chennai facility, carmaker Ford India said it expected to clear a backlog of about 4.000 units of its small car Figo within one month.

The company had received bookings for 25,000 units since it launched the small car in March 2010.

The company has already started the second shift of production at its Maraimalai Nagar manufacturing facility in Chennai.

The plant boasts a capacity of 1 lakh units per annum, which has been stepped up to 1.40 lakh units with the introduction of the second shift.

The company had launched the much awaited global small car Figo at Rs3.5-4.48 lakh in March to compete against Maruti Swift, Hyundai i20, and Polo from Volkswagen.

"Reaching the 25,000 sales booking milestone in close to 100 days continues the Figo's remarkable rise in popularity among Indian consumers," Ford India president and managing director Michael Boneham said.
